Off topic & self-indulgent – my new book is finally done!

At least a first draft. Publisher is about to send me back comments. This is a book for women. I decided to write it for two reasons. First, I’ve learned a thing or two about women in the last ten years. I’ve had a lot of women tell me that I understand them better than they understand themselves. Now, I don’t know about that, but I know I have something to offer. And second, oddly, I’ve learned a lot about men, their goals, fears, insecurities, and surprises. Being a dating coach is kind of like being a barber or a bartender — customers trust you with their deepest secrets. Actually, it’s more than that, since I’m also with these guys when push comes to shove and they’re approaching women — so I not only see what guys say they want, but also what they actually do. They’re not always the same.

So, congratulations me.

It was also fun to write something long-form again. Most stuff on the internet is pretty short, to work well with smartphones, short attention spans, and so on. I rarely get above a couple hundred words on any concept, and that’s not enough to treat stuff in the depth I like. (This was probably the longest thing I wrote recently, and even then it was shortened from a few thousand words to begin with). So it’s nice to be able to bring in all the “for examples” and “this is WHY this happens” and “here’s a story that happened on bootcamp that illustrates this point” and so on.

Anyway, back to regularly scheduled programming. It was fun to write but damn am I happy it’s done…
